Business Marketing Tip – How to Hire Someone to Convert Your Audio Training to Articles

In the last few days I have been interviewing a handful of folks that are looking to do transcription work to find one or two people that will be able to take the real estate and marketing courses I already have plus some of the new ones that I am scheduled to do and convert them in articles to post on the blog and various other marketing opportunities.I have some feedback and tips for those of you that are considering doing something similar in your own business, but before I get to some of the tips I want to remind you why I am even bothering to do this in the first place.Content (and by content I mostly mean articles for your website) is critically important to build and keep traffic to your website. Whether you are just posting the articles on your site or you are also using the articles on other article directory sites for syndication and republication, you will find that having content, specifically valuable content, and a lot of it to be one of the most effective, long term traffic models available. For example, here is some real world data. Just before the New Year, I went back and looked at Google Analytics data from one of my websites. I took the total amount of search engine traffic coming to my site over a specific–very long–period of time and divided it by the number of articles I had on my website. Then I divided by the number of months in the time period to get a number of visitors from search engines per article per month number. First off, I want to say that this number is conservatively low because I used the total number of articles at the end of the period as if that number of articles existed the entire time when really I was adding articles at a rate of about 1 or 2 per day.So, what was my number? 10 new visitors per month per article. Yours may be much higher, yours might be a little lower, but let’s look at what that really means in terms of pay per click traffic (which I think is similar in quality to organic search engine traffic from articles, but that’s a topic for another day).If you were paying 50 cents per click to get a visitor to your site, then 10 new visitors from search engines per month per article, means that you article is worth $5 per month in pay per click traffic to you or about $60 per year. So, for every article that you write, you can expect, on average, about $60 worth of traffic from that article over the course of a year. And that, in a round about way, is why I am taking the numerous hour long talks that I have done and converting them into text articles.Ok… so, getting back to the feedback on hiring someone to transcribe my hour long talks and then take that transcription and convert it to articles.First, price does not always mean quality. Often it does, but there are people that just want to earn some extra money and they are happy making a lot less than someone that is a “professional” transcriptionist that is charging 6 times as much. And yes, the difference can be that much. I have had people bid and do a great job at a much, much lower rate. I have also gotten horribly poor quality stuff from mid to high price guys.Second, get lots of bids and try several people out. When I go to hire someone I advertise the job is to do a single hour of work and let them know that if it goes well, I do have more. I will even hire several people from the first job post to do one hour each to find the ones that communicate well with me, do it in a reasonable amount of time, and do a reasonably good job. If I happen to find two or three in the group that fit that standard than I will hire more than one and split the work until one of them opts either through their actions or words not to do the work for me anymore.Third, set the standard early on. It is much easier to set a high standard in the beginning and have folks strive to reach that standard than to be vague and let them fail from your lack of standards. So, I hope those tips help you if you decide to convert any audio presentations you have into articles.

The Important Role Of Public Relations

Public relations is fundamentally the art and science of establishing relationships between an organization and its key audiences. Public relations plays a key role in helping business industries create strong relationships with customers.Public relations involves supervising and assessing public attitudes, and maintaining mutual relations and understanding between an organization and its public. The function of public relations is to improve channels of communication and to institute new ways of setting up a two-way flow of information and understanding.Public relations is effective in helping:* Corporations convey information about their products or services to potential customers* Corporations reach local government and legislators* Politicians attract votes and raise money, and craft their public image and legacy

* Non-profit organizations, including schools, hospitals, social service agencies etc. boost support of their programs such as awareness programs, fund-raising programs, and to increase patronage of their servicesPublic relations in present times employs diverse techniques such as opinion polling and focus groups to evaluate public opinion, combined with a variety of high-tech techniques for distributing information on behalf of their clients, including the internet, satellite feeds, broadcast faxes, and database-driven phone banks. As public image is important to all organizations and prominent personalities the role of public relations specialist becomes pertinent in crisis situations. Public relations agencies provide important and timely transmission of information that helps save the face of the organization. In the words of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), “Public relations helps an organization and its public adopt mutually to one another.”Experienced public relations agencies have formulation press releases into which they can plug the company news, as well as a targeted list of publications for their industry. Truly good public relations agencies generally have a good working relationship with key reporters, boosting their chances of getting coverage. Some public relations agencies deal only with large, established clients, while smaller boutique public relations agencies specialize in certain areas. At present public relations as a career option exists in private companies or government institutions that actively market their product, service and facilities. Public relations training courses are widespread in educational institutions. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were 122,000 public relations specialists in the United States in 1998 and approximately 485,000 advertising, marketing, and public relations managers working in all industries.

Most public relations practitioners are recruited from the ranks of journalism. Public relations officers are highly trained professionals with expertise and knowledge in many areas, for example shareholder management during a crisis, the evolving role of the in-house public relations professional, account management skills for public relations, an introduction to financial public relations, an introduction to consumer public relations, an introduction to public relations software etc.

Mental Health Stigma

Despite the increase in publicity surrounding mental health and mental health issues, there is still a lack of understanding about mental health in general. For example, a research survey published by the government “Attitudes to Mental Illness 2007″ reported that 63% of those surveyed described someone who is mentally ill as suffering from schizophrenia, and more than half believed that people with mental illness should be kept in a psychiatric ward or hospital. Overall the results showed that positive attitudes to people with mental health had actually decreased since 1994 which is worrying indeed.Amazingly, many people still don’t understand that mental health problems affect most of us in one way or another, whether we are suffering from a mental illness ourselves or not. If we bear in mind that a quarter of the population are suffering from some kind of mental health problem at any one time, then the chances are, even if we personally don’t have a mental illness, we will know someone close to us who does, so it is our responsibility to understand what mental illness is and what can be done about it.Many people with mental health problems will often feel isolated and rejected and too afraid to share their problems with others purely because of the way they might be perceived. This lack of understanding means they are less likely to get the kind of help and support they need and are in danger of slipping even further into depression and mental illness. People need to understand that mental illness need not be a barrier to a better quality of life and that help is available and that most people with a mental health problem can regain full control over their lives if they get the support they need.

A new guide to mental healthThe Royal College of Psychiatrists has produced a new guide to mental health which was published in November 2007 and is aimed at informing the general public about what mental illness is and is a big step towards tackling the stigma that is still attached to mental illness. The guide is written in an easy to understand format and over 60 mental health experts have contributed to it. The Mind: A User’s Guide contains chapters that cover a whole range of mental illnesses and includes a section on how the brain works, how mental illness is diagnosed, and how to cope with it.A Scottish surveyIn Scotland, a national survey of public attitudes to mental health Well? What Do You Think? (2006) was published in September 2007 and highlighted that although people living in socially deprived areas have a higher incidence of mental health, the level of stigmatisation is still no lower than in other areas. This suggests that being confronted with mental illness is not enough to change the attitudes towards it.There are also gender differences too. According to the Scottish survey, men with a mental health problem were more likely to be treated with suspicion than women and were also more inclined to avoid social contact with someone else with a mental health problem. Even out of those who displayed a positive attitude towards people with mental health problems, many said they would be reluctant to tell anyone if they had a mental health problem themselves which just goes to show that there is still fear surrounding other peoples’ perceptions of mental health.A CIPD SurveyA recent study conducted by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and KPMG consultants surveyed over 600 employers and reported that doctors are not doing enough to help people with mental health problems return to work and that this is costing the business world billions of pounds. For example, only 3% of the participants rated doctor support as “very good”.It may be that doctors really don’t know what else to offer someone suffering from depression and anxiety other than drugs and time off work. Even more worrying was the fact that 52% of employers maintained that they never hired anyone with a history of mental illness which serves to perpetuate the stigma. On a more positive note, of those that did hire someone with a mental health problem, more than half said the experience had been “positive”.

Changing attitudesA lot is being done by governments and organisations to try to change public attitudes towards mental health but is it enough? Until we all recognise that mental illness doesn’t discriminate, it can affect any one of us at any time regardless of our age, gender or social background, the stigma attached to mental illness is likely to persist.Mental illness doesn’t discriminate, it can affect any one of us at any time regardless of our age, gender or social background, and yet the stigma attached to mental illness still persists. Although a number of government initiatives, awareness campaigns and organisations have been set up specifically to tackle mental health stigma and change our attitudes towards mental health in general, there is still a long way to go.It is therefore up to each and every one of us as individuals to make sure we are well informed and understand the issues involved because only when the public are fully aware of the facts will mental health stigma become a thing of the past.
